Rupert Charmak

Creative Director

Rupert is the creative director for scripted and branded content and the founder of SPP. He is a multi-award-winning writer and director, with a background and specialism in fight direction, movement and acting.

His work spans TV, film, theatre and radio, with companies including ITV, Shakespeare’s Globe and the Park Theatre, and he is currently developing projects for the BBC and other major streaming platforms. Alongside writing and directing, he also works as a producer.

Of mixed Indian and British heritage, Rupert was born and raised in Brighton before moving to London to train as an actor. He graduated from Mountview Academy in 2009 and has since built a diverse career bridging theatre and film.

His fascination with martial arts and movement began early: he competed in kickboxing and boxing from the age of eight and later coached Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA. Over the years, he has collaborated with charities to design and lead empowerment and self-defence workshops for schools, police departments, and corporate organisations around the world. Following the global outrage after the Delhi gang rape, he was invited to India to lead workshops with police and local communities.

Rupert’s understanding of violence and its psychology has profoundly shaped his artistic work. It has led him to choreograph fights for theatre and film, including the critically acclaimed Going for Gold at the Park Theatre, which toured to the Caribbean. He served as Fight Director and Co-Director on the project—a Windrush, mental health, and boxing biopic about Frankie Lucas—and was honoured to receive an Offie Award nomination for Best Movement and Choreography. Most recently, he was Fight Director for The Effects of Lying on ITVX, starring Mark Williams and Ace Bhatti.

His debut film as writer and director, Dark Justice, won Best Human Rights Film and Best International Film at Atlantic Bridge in Amsterdam.

SuckerPunch Productions is always open to collaborating with brands and people who lead with integrity, and Rupert welcomes exciting, diverse projects. For directing, writing, or acting enquiries, please contact him directly here.
